Guest guest
Oh Kat, I'm sorry you had to find out this way. I hope others will chime in and give you some great advice. I've never been in this situation so I'm at a loss. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 2 + years > > Thanks to anyone who can help. I hope I don't discourage everyone from visiting China, it is really beautiful here. I think if I had avoided wheat I would have been fine. Needless to say, I'm 100% sure now that I have Celiac disease, and Dermatitis Herpetiformis (rash associated with Celiac). > > Kat >
Guest guest
I've never been to China (don't I wish!) but I have a couple of thoughts for you. First, this one is if someone in your dinner party speaks Chinese. Maybe you can ask for just plain steamed veggies, steamed over water, nothing added. This is what I always did with our Chinese restaurant here, mainly so DH (who has no gut troubles) could have his Chinese food. I'd even tell them which veggies I could handle at the moment and as long as I really stressed the " cook over plain water, do not add anything " it would be fine. Add some sort of bland plain meat and you won't starve. The second idea might not work but it's an idea. My acupuncturist spent several months in China for some advanced study a few years ago. She doesn't have gut troubles but she said the food in the not-very-large city where they were, was pretty much inedible. But another of the students had been there before and discovered an Indian restaurant down the street so that was where they ate all the time. Of course I don't know where all you will be and what might be available other than just Chinese, but you might see. Since there won't be a nice SCD restaurant for you, of course you'd have to pick and choose any place but maybe you'd have a better chance elsewhere. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
I was fairly certain I was celiac, or at the very least gluten-intolerant. But after a week here of being exposed to some wheat in very small amounts, I still had no symptoms. So, I thought maybe I was ok to have a bit of wheat while traveling. Now I know, definitely not having wheat ever again for the rest of my life Kat Unfortunately it really IS no gluten ever again. One tiny bit can cause an amazing amount of trouble. When I had my last colonoscopy I had had a bite of wheat some months before (which in all these years I have rarely done), and the doc told me I had some milk inflammation he was seeing and that yes, it undoubtedly was from that one small bite a few months before! Not a good idea at all for us who have celiac problems.
Guest guest
I do believe it now. I was never officially diagnosed with Celiac so I started to think I might do ok with small amounts. But now I know, absolutely no trace of it ever. That's amazing that even months later there was inflammation. It makes sense to me though, since it took me over a year and a half gluten-free with 1 year of that SCD to finally get a lot better. This past year I have not really had digestive symptoms until now. I'm hoping I recover from this episode quickly! Thanks, Kat > Unfortunately it really IS no gluten ever again.
