Remember to dilute the grape juice so it is at least half water. Knudsen's Organic Just Concord Grape (legal) does not have Potassium metabisulphite if you are concerned. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, The only veggies in the marinara are garlic and onion, plus the following spices: bay leaf, oregano, and salt & pepper. I haven't noticed a change in the consistency of his poop, or gas. As for beta carotene, isn't there a good bit of that in acorn/butternut squash? I ask because he eats a least two good helpings of that per day. Thank you! He's likely getting more beta carotene than he needs from the squash and the extra from the marinara sauce is likely gotten rid of in the stool. From http://ibdcrohns.about.com/cs/otherdiseases/a/stoolcolors.htm " ....Causes of orange colored stools -some medications (such as beta-carotene and rifampen) -foods high in beta-carotene: carrots, sweet potatoes, apricots, winter squash, pumpkin, cantaloupe, and mangoes If a change in stool color cannot be attributed to a dietary reason, or is accompanied by any other symptoms (such as diarrhea, constipation, weakness, or dizziness), a doctor should be consulted. Guest guest
He is doing better and hopefully it was the juice! He has been on SCD for two years, drinking Welch's, and we've never had a problem. He's had a few bumps in the road since late last year. When I told him about the new juice, he told me they changed the cap color from white to purple a few months ago and it tasted different. Maybe that's the problem.... I ask because I think I have a bit of a yeast overgrowth ever since taking an antibiotic after a flare last October. I'm trying to find other foods that are filling and don't feed yeast.__________________________________________________________________CDSCD 5 monthsLialda, PurinetholFreeda Vitamins, L. I switched from Welch's Grape Juice to Knudsen "Just Concord". I was curiuos so I contacted Welch's and asked about the concentrate and sugar. Here's what they said:Thank You From Welch'sþFrom: askwelchs (askwelchs (AT) welchs (DOT) com) Sent: Mon 3/29/10 12:00 PM To: jim_judi (AT) msn (DOT) com Thank you for contacting us regarding Welch's 100% Grape Juice, and the process of concentrating grape juice. At harvest time, the grapes received at Welch's manufacturing facilities are pressed to extract the grape juice. The water contained in the juice is then removed so that more juice can be stored in less space. This removal of water is known as "concentrating" the juice.Because the grape juice is stored as concentrate, it is necessary to add the same amount of water back to the juice, (called reconstituting the juice), prior to bottling the ready-to-drink product. Welch's has been using grape juice concentrate in its juices for many years, and this has been noted in the ingredient listing.Welch's is not able to designate any of their products "sugar free" due to the fact that most contain natural fruit sugars from the juices and juice concentrates used as ingredients. However, the grams of sugar shown on the label of Welch's 100% juices, for example, are composed of the naturally occurring fructose and glucose found in the fruit used to make this product. This information would pertain to Welch's purple, red, and white grape juices, as well as white grape juice blends. There is no sugar added to the 100% juice products.Welch's Frozen Concentrated Lite Juice Cocktails in grape, cranberry, and cranberry-raspberry contain aspartame, an artificial sweetener that is very low in calories (you may be more familiar with this ingredient by its trade name, NutraSweet). Here again, there are grams of sugar in these products, which are derived from the fruit juice concentrates. By law these grams of sugar must be shown on the nutritional panel of the label. We hope this information is helpful to you. Please use the enclosed complimentary coupon towards your next purchase of Welch's product.
Guest guest
A week or two ago, I started having bloating and major gut gurgles in the evening. It took me a while to associate it with the Welch's (it was actually my mom who suggested it). I stopped the Welch's a few days ago, and lost the bloat and gurgles with it. This really disappoints me. Welch's has been one of my favorite treats since starting SCD more then a year ago :-( When the cap changed to purple, I too thought the taste was a bit different. Guest guest
I do have a juicer. Once the good tasting grapes get in, I'll have to give it a try :-) Holly > > > Welch's has been one of my favorite treats since starting SCD more then a year ago :-( > > > When the cap changed to purple, I too thought the taste was a bit different. > > > Holly > > Crohn's > > SCD 12/01/08 >
