Guest guest
We are at the point with Abby to make the decision for a gtube in or not. We met with the doctor this afternoon and are scheduled to meet with the surgeon in one week. I think we are moving forward with it but I want to hear some input from you all who have been through it. Abby is 4 1/2 years old with RSS. She weighed in today at 21 pounds (a loss of 3 pounds since January). She has been on periactin since November 2004 and growth hormones for over three years. Abby continues to fight a bacterial infection that comes and goes because we cannot get her to eat enough to be able to take the intense antibiotics she needs to take for the infection to heal for awhile. Her eating habits are poor. A typical day of eating is 1/4 piece of toast loaded with butter, 3 bites of a bologna sandwich, a few bites of cottage cheese/pudding etc, and 1/4 cup of mac and cheese. She drinks maximum two glasses of high cal chocolate milk and one glass of high cal juice. Any thoughts on a gtube for Abby would be greatly appreciated. This is to be done next Thursday. Thanks, Amy
Guest guest
Hi Amy, was 2 1/2 when we put in his gtube. He was 14 pounds. Today, at just over 5 years old (and after 1 year on gh) is now 38 inches tall and 32 pounds. He looks like a normal healthy little boy (although one a little younger than he is). We tried everything to avoid the tube, but just couldn't eat enough to grow without it. Feel free to email me directly. My office email (I can't access my home email at the office) is jbalsan@ tagassoc.com (take out the space).
