Guest guest
Hi What Colin- went through sounds horrible, must of been tough on you guys too?? Just a thought, if he pulls it out can you not put it back in? Liam has a mickey button and when his has fallen out in the past and we didnt have a spare, we washed it and put it back in, that time the balloon had broken so we taped the button to his stomach till we could get to the hospital, at least we could keep the stoma open. Hope he keeps this one in a while. jody(mum to Liam RSS and Cameron) > > Hello Everyone - Well we survived Colin- pulling his button out > of his stomach which lasted for two weeks when he decided to do it > again. Guest guest
Hi , Did you know that ANY needle-nose syringe will work with the button??? Since Colin- has a g-tube, you should have a supply company, right? They can be ordered through there. I use either a 5cc or a 10cc syringe. has an 12F 2.0cm AMT Mini button. Another idea. If you're able to deflate the balloon right away with a needle-nose syringe, but still have problems getting the button to pop back in the stoma, try using KY jelly. We have always just used Vaseline, but when we visited the Ped Surgeon, he recommended the KY. We tried it for the first time when demonstrating the button change at 's school, and the button popped in MUCH easier than normal!! We put a some on the button and then globbed (great medical term here! LOL) it over the stoma, and the button popped right in! The Ped Surgeon also said that you can use liquid dish soap if nothing else is available. In fact, he preferred the dish soap to the Vaseline that we'd been using!! I was VERY surprised!! Hope this helps!! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 3 yrs old, 23.5# (10.7kg), 32.8 " (83.3cm), G-Tube)
Guest guest
Pat, We always use KY Jelly when changing 's tube. The reason you should not use Vaseline is because it is petroleum based. Petroleum destroys latex, and can irritate the site. KY Jelly is a water-based lubricant, which is much safer to use for insertion of a g- tube. Using a silicone-based lubricant might make it easier to insert a g-tube as it retains lubricating properties better & longer, but this can harm tubes made from silicone.
