Guest guest
Hello, I have my 9 month signed up for mom and tot swim class. Can I leave the helmet on? I am guessing there is little head to water contact. Or should I take off, it is 30 mins. However, when the helmet is off my son is so fixated on his head, scratching and pulling at this ears that it will either help by distracting or make for a long 30 mins of class. ANyone doing or has done swim classes/lessons with helmet on?
Guest guest
You should take the band off during swimming lessons. I wouldn't want to take any chances of anything happening to it. I took a swim class with my son and it was hard to avoid getting his head wet. We did stuff where we laid the babies on their back in the water, etc. I bet the class will distract him from the time off in the band. Guest guest
My son has a DOCBand and our therapist specifically said to take it off before doing any swimming. You can check with your individual ortho though (I would assume the answer will be " take it off " for all DOCBands, but a StarBand ortho might say something differently-I can't remember offhand which band you have, sorry!). Hopefully being in the water will help distract him from his bare head! Jake-20m (tort resolved/rt plagio/DOCBand) Jordan-4 > > Hello, I have my 9 month signed up for mom and tot swim class. Guest guest
yeah I assumed it would need to come off. we have a hanger band and I am 90% sure the handout we originally received said to take off for swimming. I am hoping he will be so curious about the water and others he wont spend his time itching his head : D Re: Swimming Class My son has a DOCBand and our therapist specifically said to take it off before doing any swimming. Guest guest
I did a swim class as well and I would just take it off right before and put it back on right after and just make sure that during bathtime it came off and went back on quick so it wasn't off for longer then and hour or hour and a half during the whole day. sybil From: Foley, Molly <mafoley@...>Subject: RE: Swimming ClassPlagiocephaly Date: Thursday, May 15, 2008, 6:07 PM You should take the band off during swimming lessons. Guest guest
My son has a Doc Band. I was told NOT to get it wet. I had to incorporate the swimming and the bath time together to add up to the one hour he has it off. I was instructed that after swimming, I was to bath him and wash his hair (to get the chlorine out) and be sure that he was fully dried before the band was put back on.
