Guest guest
Yes, freezing the yogurt kills off most of the bacteria. It's still SCD legal... as long as you start with SCD yogurt, but you won't get much probiotic effect. I like to freeze ripe bananas or chunks of cooked fruit... and make smoothies, using yogurt as a base. I don't ever put the yogurt in the freezer .... but it probably still does kill *some* of the " good guys " in the process of coming into contact with the frozen fruit chunks and the violent agitation from the blender. I'm sure there is more left alive than freezing it solid for hours. Then, also, you normally consume a smoothie immediately, so I figure the flora are still pretty lively. Patti Frozen yogurt Two questions regarding frozen yogurt. 1. Does the probiotic effect of the yogurt become damaged, ruined, whatever when made into frozen yogurt even if the recipe does not call for heating the yogurt? I'm thinking that probably the continuous mixing of the yogurt and other ingredients for 30 minutes...even though a gentle mixing in the ice cream maker...is reversing the probiotic effect of the yogurt. True? 2. Anyone got an idea/recipe for banana-colota frozen yogurt? I have a ton of way over ripe bananas from BJs. They were in a clearance cart for 50 cents a bag(about 3lb. bags), and I figured that I could use them in recipes if nothing else. I have unsweetened, dried coconut, too. I'm thinking a banana-colota frozen yogurt would be yummy, but I've just starting trying the frozen yogurt thing. Any suggestions are welcome. Finally, not related to frozen yogurt, but can anyone who buys the dccc at BJs tell me what section it is in? Is it in the refrigerated cases with the eggs, heavy cream, milk, ect.? Also, does the package say farmer's cheese or dry curd cottage cheese? Is it in a tub like cottage cheese? I'm talking about the Friendship Dairy brand that they apparently carry. Thanks. It comes in a rectangular plastic container (large enough for about 2 cups) with plastic you tear off the top. It says Friendship Farmer's Cheese. I usually call before I go to BJ's to make sure they have it. It's nice to have the SKU for them to look it up. The SKU # is 342750. If you can't find it, but they said it's there, go to customer service and ask them to show you where it is. As to what it looks like, check out this link: http://www.friendshipdairies.com/products/farmerhoop.shtml Hope this helps, -Sharon
Guest guest
Jodi, I always freeze a few bunches of ripe bananas at a time. I just peel them and put them on cookie sheets and put them in the freezer and when they are frozen, transfer them to a bag. They don't get brown. The Eat Well Feel Well cookbook has a good strawberry ice cream recipe. It is just yogurt, strawberries and honey.
