Hi Sheryl,

This subject has been discussed several times in the last couple of years,

here on the list serve. Basically, I think the general consensus was that

most of our kids don't end up turning front facing until around the age of

2, sometime a little older!

However, I was told that when a child can push against the back of the seat

with their feet, you should change from a rear-facing infant car

seat/carrier, to a seat that can face either way, and is rated for 0-40 lbs.

You would still keep Dalia rear-facing until she is 20#, but this type of

seat should give her a little more leg room.

Hope this helps!

Sheryl,

Abby's doctor wrote a note on a prescription pad saying that she was 18 months

old and had the doctor's okay to be turned around in a car seat. We have the

same law however, there are exceptions to the law with these and other failure

to thrive children. The doctor told us it is about head and neck control more

than it is weight. In fact, Abby is only 25 lbs. now and has another doctor

note saying she can be in a high-back booster seat. She is tall enough just

does not weigh enough. With this type of seat it is where the seat belt hits

their shoulders that matters more than their weight.

Hope that helps. By the way, how are you feeling? I dropped over the weekend

and have been told that this little guy could come any day. Oh my, a month

early but he is big already.

Take care, Amy (mom to Abby)

Does everyone out there with a toddler have state laws requiring the

car seat to face the rear until they hit 20 lbs? I feel like it will

be forever before we can turn Dalia around to the front.

I asked the pediatrician about turning her around because her feet hit

the back seat, but they said " the law is the law " - this is true..

This is not too much of a vent, but rather a topic I was wondering

about how others approached.

Thanks for the idea of the doctor's note...several people suggested

this.

I am feeling good...lots of pressure from the baby's head and I am

carrying pretty low too. I am going to NY in 2 weeks and hope the

baby holds on at least until we get back!!

Oh my, sounds like you are ready to go....hang in there..
