Guest guest
Hi all, I have been in and out of this group over the years I have two daughters that went through the DOC band. I have a 9 year old daughter who had severe plagio when she was younger and went through the DOC band starting at 19 months old. She graduated from the band at 21 months old. Even after graduating from the DOC band, there was still a flat spot on her head, however no one can notice it unless they are feeling her head. Prior to getting into the DOC band she was in Occupational therapy from the time she was 8 months old and in speech therapy from the time she was 18 months old. After graduating from the DOC band her development improved a lot, however she was still having problems with her speech. When she was 5 or 6 we discovered that some of her speech problems were due to the muscle under her tongue being too tight and after having it cut by a laser her speech has improved. However she continued in speech therapy until last year when she was 8 years old. My youngesst daughter is now 4 and she had a more mild case of plagio, but severe enough that we went through a DOC band with her as well. She started in her band at 6 months old and graduated out of her band at 9 months old. She never required any type of therapy and is incredibly smart for her age. My youngest has no flat spot remaining. I am wondering if any of you have seen information on older kids who have had plagio in the past and are now having learning problems in school or problems with keeping focused. My older daughter is having some issues in school with learning and I am trying to figure out if there is a connection between plagio even with it being corrected, and learning problems in school later on. Also if there is a possibility that having a concussion after being treated or having plagio is any more severe or has other consequences than for kids who have not had plagio in the past. If any of you have questions I may be able to answer from when my kids went through the whole thing. I would be happy to help. I keep comming back to this group throughout the years as I miss the wonderful support this group provides. Johanna
