Guest guest
Hi , has his first set of tubes placed in the end of Jan. We made sure to inform the Drs of the surgery protocols for RSS kids, and everything went off without a hitch. was admitted to the hospital the night before, and placed on a D10 IV. He was scheduled for the first procedure in the morning. Because he couldn't have his reflux meds in the morning, they placed a drain on his g-tube, so that he wouldn't reflux and aspirate stomach acid. We, also, warned them ahead of time, that metabolizes sedatives very quickly. When he got back from surgery, they thought he'd sleep for at least an hour, but he was sitting up in bed, asking for French fries within 15 minutes! LOL He's shown no ill effects from the surgery, and never complained of any pain afterwards. The only odd things that we've noticed are that he REALLY can't tolerate any loud noises now, and any time it's windy, or there's a consistent breeze, he complains. He'll put his fingers in his ears, and let you know that he's not happy. BUT one thing you need to know is that this won't make the infections totally go away. has had two ear infections since the surgery. What is does do, is allow the ear drum to drain, so that there is no a build up of pressure, the hearing isn't as affected, and hopefully permanent damage is avoided. Hope this helps! HUGS!!
