Guest guest
I nursed my son until he was 14 months. I knew nothing about autism or GFCF at the time but I had just done a report on milk for a PE class and decided I was not convinced it was good for him. I gave my son juice, ice tea or water and never attempted to give him a milk substitute. He had no problem with it. He did eat yogurt and cheese though. He was diagnosed at his 2 year check-up and now I am so glad I never started something I would later have to take away. The interesting thing is when I had his hair tested his calcium levels were quite high. Pretty good for a child that has never drank milk and at that time, didn't take calcium substitutes. > Hey, > > You may remember me. A couple of months ago, I had posted that I had a 12 month old that I was concerned about. His 8 yr old brother is autistic. Everyone encouraged me to have him evaluated. Well, finally we have had some evals and the impression right now is that he does have an expressive speech delay, but his cognition and receptive speech seem to be age appropriate, but need to be monitored to make sure no lag appears. So, he will start with our state early intervention program with speech therapy. But, as soon as I became concerned two months ago, I immediately put him on the gfcf diet. This was challenging, as toddlers this age LOVE crackers, cheerios, etc. However, I was able to find one of the Gerber graduates that was gfcf, the Turkey stew (with veggies and rice), so he eats this for either lunch or dinner every day. > > I really feel that the diet has made a difference for him. So, here is my next question. Luckily, I had always had him on the soy formula prophylactically, but now it is time to stop the formula. AND, I am considering eliminating soy from my 8 yr old's diet and the baby's. So, CAN I USE VANCE'S DAIRY FREE MILK AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR HIS FORMULA, since he is 14 months old?? Much like most moms just give their toddler whole cow's milk?? I figured I could squirt some vitamins in there. He still likes a bottle before nap and at bedtime. I could just put it in his bottle. I don't see any other alternative, other than no " milk " at all- off the bottle cold turkey. > > Trina > > >

She is doing great, and is extremely healthy. I do add vitamins to her " milk " too - just because I want to make sure she is getting them, it is hard to tell if she eats enough veggies or fruit to get her vitamins in her food (so much of it ends up on the floor!) Anyway - you can check with your pediatrician, just to make sure. Guest guest
My personal testimonial....as soon as my dairy and soy allergic daughter was one year old we started using increasing amts of Dari-Free in her milk and soy-substitute formula (which was expensive as liquid gold). She is a thriving 2 year old now and this way I know she is getting a good calcium source. HOWEVER please check with your pediatrician to see when it is safe for you to begin switching though because infants need the higher fat formulas which Dari-Free is not. We just premeasure the Dari-free powder into a formula carriers (that have three chambers in them and can be gotten in Walmart and such) and dump in in her bottle of water, shake, and go. It makes it very convenient. Jay
