Have pickling cucumbers.  How do you or can you use yogurt starter to ferment them or how does that work?

 

I followed a chef''s recipe on pickles over the weekend--can't eat it.  User error I'm sure.  These were a science project--used zucchini and onion instead of cucumbers.  I need a solid recipe for edible pickles and btw, I'm told pickles are the worst for yeast.  Worse than sugar maybe, anyone know?
