I tried searching and didn't come up with much. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is also called ubiquinone, a name that signifies its ubiquitous (widespread) distribution in the human body. CoQ10 is used by the body to transform food into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy on which the body runs. CoQ10 is found primarily in fish and meat, but the amounts in food are far less than what can be obtained from supplements. Good stuff. It's great for energy. http://faculty.washington.edu/ely/coenzq10.html is a good article by the person who used to participate in the same Forum where I learned about SCD. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag96/96jan1f.htm has a good article on CoQ10 and breast cancer. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

I take it on the advice of an immunologist because along with Crohn's, et al, I have mitochondrial dysfunction, which causes fatigue from not enough cellular oxygen, and that, in turn, causes lactic acid build-up in your muscles (which is what happens if you've excercised hard and your muscles start "burning"). You should know that NOT ALL CoQ10 is the same. A lot of it is poorly absorbed by the body. Get one of the kinds in a gel cap. Q-Gel is good. Straight ubiquinone is even better: if you buy it in that form, the first step to your body using it is already done before you even take it.You may also want to know that good CoQ10 is fairly expensive, and ubiquinone the more so. It's also helpful to start at a relatively low dose and work up. At first I would recommend not taking more than 50 mg a day. I take 400 mg, sometimes more -- that's a "therapeutic" dose not a "maintenance" dose. I generally buy all my supplements either at Lucky Vitamin or Swanson Vitamans because they have numerous brands (and Swanson has their own brand as well) at the best prices. And they list all the ingredients for everything. As long as a brand is in gel-cap form (not powder) and doesn't have illegal additives, there are various to choose from -- including the straight ubiguinone, as I said.n_ ______________________________A funny, touching gift book for cat lovers.
