Guest guest
Hi there. Your email was very inspiring to me. I recently left ICU 12hr. days to go to Recovery 8 hr. days, because it was getting to be just TOO MUCH for me. I am +115. You must feel SO GOOD having gotten down so far!! I am concerned about something, perhaps you can shed some light on. I think I would like to get the DS, it seems to be more " liveable " . However, working in recovery, it is one big room! My concern is about the very aromatic flatulence I have heard about. If this were a likely event with the DS, I don't see how I could have this particular surgery. I can live with the stools being fragrant, but my co-workers would not appreciate so much the gas! Patti pcavender@... please email me there if you get a chance. --- Ru wrote: > I have lost -110#. Guest guest
Hi Patti- From a total of 7 weeks experience with this, I don't think that the flatulence would be a problem. First, we all have it, anyway. When I have it now, it feels like I have to go. When I do, it is only gas. It isn't as urgent as it was pre-op. I realize, though, that these things change as we recover. I have no idea what is going to happen down the road. At any rate, gas has not caused me any problems or embarrassment so far. Around 2/3 of the DS patients don't have a stool/gas problem, anyway. It sure beats eating RNY style! Best- Nick Re: I DID IT > Hi there. Your email was very inspiring to me. Guest guest
Hi Patti, At 9 months I haven't found gas to be a real problem. Sure, I've occasionally had stinky gas, but not often and over time it rarely happens to me now. What happens in the bathroom is another thing altogether! However, there are some things you can do to minimize the gas problem: 1. Avoid eating foods that you know will give you gas. Save it for after work. 2. Lactose intolerance can give you a bad gas problem. 3. Take Beano with each meal. 4. Acidolphilus helps maintain the good bacteria in your system preventing the bad buggies from taking over and making stinkies. 5. I have found Devrom to be helpful (just got in a new supply!). If all else fails, maybe these would help: http://www.under-tec.com/ Kathleen F Open Duodenal Switch Drs. Rabkin/Jossart 01/02/01 - 374# 10/16/01 - 245# http://www.webniche.com/wls/ > ..snip..
