Sher,

You posted this to our board....that' s how Bruce knew about Rich's surgery.lol I know about it too, from our board.

I hope that all goes smoothly and Rich has a speedy recovery. It is all so very overwhelming I know. Just one day at a time...that' s all you can do.

You and Rich are in my thoughts and prayers!

Bruce... how in the heck do you know about Rich's surgery?? You must be on the board w/Ze and May...

Yes, surgery on Nov. 3rd. I'm extremely apprehensive about meeting his needs as well as he has meant mine all these years. My caregiver now needs a caregiver. According to the paper work he was given, no driving for a year! Possibility of fainting and/or dizziness and other things. Don't lift more than 5#. However long it takes him to recover sufficiently, shopping that he currently does and errands and etc he may not do for awhile...

It's lucky we are here close to Lysa but she can't be a caregiver full time either.

Our lives are certainly going to change. We don't know yet how we will handle the changes but we will and yes I'll sure keep ya posted.

MB... lol at myself. I somehow thought I was emailing May privately...duh.

It is a stressful time right now. Although Lysa is 4 min away, she can't fill the daily min by min, hr by hr things that will arise. I will do what I can and if necessary I'll just have to hire someone....but for what? Min by min, hr by hr? A person cannot just sit here waiting for something I or we need help with.

We are planning laundry on Sat when Hannah or Lysa can help....we'll just have to see.

I must remember, one day at a time. I can do that and so can Rich.

thanks for your support.

Sher,I'm sorry that with everything going on with you, that you now have this additional worry.  My prayers for Rich for successful surgery and a speedy recovery.  Keep the faith and take care of you.  Could hospice be any help for temporary needs?Roxanne, 59, South Carolina

Roxanne...I don't think hospice will be an option. Neither of us are 'dying'.

As such. I'm just feeling overwhelmed. I want to be there for him and hell, I can't even be here for myself! We'll manage and Lysa is close by.

i'm sorry to hear about rich's heart surgery.

very stressful for you both. i did notice

when i was in for the vats surgery that all

the heart patients, after recovery, felt so

much better and had much better colour. i'm

sure it will be the same for rich. some said

it was years since they'd felt so well.

however, his convalescence will take time. in

the uk we have a state home care system where

district nurses and then care assistants come

out to the home for a while to deal with wounds

and then bathing needs. this contines until

its not necessary. they wont of course shop

etc but on-line shopping with home deliveries

is getting very easy and common here. loads of

people without health issues do it now. i believe

delivery fees are higher for peak times and very

low for non peak.

i can see that lysa cant do everything. if you

are thinking about hiring someone, what about

hiring your own grandchildren. i think household

chores can be kept to one big session. laundry,

vacuum and dusting with perhaps a shopping delivery at

this session. perhaps then the grandchildren can

come in the evening and help with dinner and preping

lunch for next day too.

anyhow, you are just at the start of brainstorming

how this is all going to be organised. one day at

a time indeed. it will all work out.

good luck for the surgery.

J/J...thanks for these suggestions. I will call. We're so damn used to 'not qualifying' that I put off calling. This time I will. I may (will) need some help.

Lysa is close and good to help but I don't want to over burden her either. If we can find a way to help ourselves, that's best to do.

Love to you both.

Thanks May...your suggestions are wonderful and I'm considering all you said already.

I guess inserting a defibrillator is not "open heart" surgery as I supposed.

I'm sure he will feel better, drs say he will. I do notice his color is not good. Sometimes pale sometimes a bit yellow.

Thanks for your concern. I know you are dealing with your own medical stuff!

Take advantage of the senior citizen group in your area, they helped greatly with my mother who just recently died, and now I am in the same boat and they are there for me...........ellen
