Guest guest
Dear Marilyn, and scd Listers, Thanks for this info-- just started CoQ10 yesterday. The doc was ok with my using Red Rice Yeast--which had already been effective-- nonetheless he suggested a statin. I agreed to try it--being on no other pharma med, and having a close friend, keeps herself in great shape, eats well, exercise [something which I seldom do] and she is big on statins. Anyway, I did not do well on the Statin, tired, headaches, body-aches. So, I stopped that and went back to Red Rice Yeast. It works, at least for me, and lots of other folks. I am on my way to look at the websites you recommend. Thank you for input. Am sighing with possibility of having to monitor carbs more closely. I eat lots of apples, lucky to be able to digest, love them, and often do several a day as a go-to food. They fit the need for portable, can take to office, no fridge needed, etc. Open to other suggestions that would give me away-from-home w no fridge food. Also been eating dried fruit w walnuts or pecans. And Donna at scdrecipecreators had posted a wonderful looking cold cereal recipe. I've yet to make it, but enjoy even thinking of it. anticipation! I'll post it below. Anyway, it too is carb-y. Aaaack! Somehow sardines don't work for me as an office snack! If you --someone on this list-- has less carb-y snacks, please tell! thank you again for input re: scd and cardiac calcification! Here is Cold Cereal recipe from Donna, scdrecipecreators: we had talked a while ago about creating a cereal with veggies. well i have been working on it and i really like it. the kids do to. you will need a dehydrator. i bought mine cheap at walmart a few years ago. Mix well . . . 3 cups of grated butternut squash 3 cups of grated apple 2 cups of grated carrots 1/2 C honey 2 tsp cinnamon 8 tsp oil dehydrate by laying out about 1/4 inch thick on a fruit leather tray. serve with almond milk with any of the following added in. dehydrated sliced banana chips (made yourself - store bought have sugar added). dehydrated apple slices (if you slice thin it will be crunchy and sweet) raisins blanched almond slivers Re: Would appreciate help with cardiac health issue + scd At 10:56 PM 4/22/2010, you wrote: I have genetically hight cholesterol. Let me be clear: I have high cholesterol totally not caused by scd. However, I have now been tested, and it turns out that there is damage. Cholesterol has calcified in heart blood vessels. The score they look for in this heart scan is zero-- mine is 438. Not so good. Doing other tests, etc, however would appreciate food help from this group. I would love some input on how to do scd with this. First off, it was strongly suggested I stop consume no more than 10 grams of sat fat p d. It was strongly suggested that I give up the the regular milk yogurt, which I was eating a lot. Of course! I did stop eating the regular yogurt, but have not made a skim milk yogurt, hoping you will have suggestions, as I am not used to yogurt that is rich, creamy and yum. Have you made a low fat yogurt? Was it ok? Watery? Please advise. Heidi, First, I'm not a doctor. I do have some experience with the high cholesterol business since my mother had it, AND had coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure. You can bet your booties the docs suggested a low-fat diet... but you already know that your cholesterol issue is not from your food, but is a genetic issue. I'm sure their response is, " Yes, but why add to the fat your system is already making? " The point is that if your system has decided that it needs X amount of cholesterol, it will simply up its cholesterol production to make up for whatever amount of fat you cut out. A low-fat diet is what ALL doctors prescribe these days because it is what is politically correct. Take a look at http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/cholesterol_myth_1.htm Also check out http://tinyurl.com/2e5pcy5 for the Weston Price Foundation view on cholesterol and LOTS of things. The information on pantethine at http://www.pantethine.net/ is good; ignore some of the side bars about other stuff. (You do NOT want a diet which tells you to eat soy protein.) If you are interested in taking pantethine, I recommend this one: http://www.pantethine.net/herbal-remedies/-/buy-pantethine (Jarrow 450 mg), though I do not buy it from the company in the ad -- you can get it elsewhere online for less. You'll do a bunch better keeping your whole milk yogurt and skipping as much honey and high-carb foods as you can, in my opinion. Also, if you are interested in heart health, look into CoQ10, aka CoEnzyme Q10, aka Ubiquinol. (If they stick you on one of the statins, you absolutely MUST take CoQ10.) — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
