Kathy,

If he's eating well and still not gaining, it could be a problem with digesting the food. There's something called EE that is caused by food intolerances and allergies. was tested for it last fall right before her helmet. They test for it by doing an upper GI scope and taking a biopsy. There are certain cells that are in the GI tract that will prevent absorption of the nutrients. came back as inconclusive because she had some of those cells (but not a lot) and so they've just been watching her growth. I sometimes wonder because she eats SO well and yet is still so tiny. In fact, she eats more than her brother who is at the 90th percentile. But, she's gained 5 pounds in the last year so the doctors are happy. She is back down to the 10th percentile now so I consider that we were really lucky to get her to the 15th while in the helmet. She hasn't gained any weight since she got it off. To get her up to the 15th, we were giving her multiple helpings of soy ice cream every night on top of 2nds at most meals. On top of that, she was asking for crackers in between meals so it's not like we were exactly force feeding her. She was hungry. We took it as her body trying to catch up for the period of no growth earlier. She still gets quite hungry, but stopped wanting the ice cream at night so maybe that's why she's not gaining any more.

I've actually been considering doing digestive enzymes to encourage her body to overcome the GI allergies. They may also help with absorption of nutrients, if that is the issue for your little one. Between her brachy, reflux, and food allergies, this girl keeps me hopping. If you want to start a dialogue through email, feel free to. I love to talk to other moms who have dealt with the same food and allergies issues. My email is melanie.watson@....

Re: starting to feel discouraged.

Not sure if this will help, but I thought it couldn't hurt by taking extra Calcium and Magnesium supplements right before I nursed once a day.Luke, 8.3 months old, STARband grad 6/09> > >> > > Hi,> > >> > > Sorry, but bad news.
