Jerry,

Arrington is not my pulmonologist but perhaps he should have been. Will reserve judgement until after next appt. which is next month.

I would like to have coffee with you and hear all that you have learned and experienced with PF. Let me know when you feel well enough to do that.

I am learning something new everyday. I am not on oxygen or meds yet but will be soon. I have loads of energy and don't cough much. I am just trying to assimilate all of the information about this awful disease. This group has taught me a lot. I have been in perfect health and this is very difficult for me. I walk 3 miles in steep hills 3 to 5 times a week and do weight training at the gym twice a week. I am now starting Yoga to help with breathing.

New Orleans is easier for me to get to than b"ham. My husband and I both attended the Uof A at Tuscaloosa. Both of our sons are graduates of Tulane. I can make NO and back home in a day when I need to.

Keep in touch and continue to heal from your eye surgery.

Bettye

Hello Jerry, I just don't know about my new doctor. He says that I have emphysema with maybe a little bit of NSIP. The doctor who dx'ed me in the first place was the one that you thought was the best. He had written articles on PF. It seemed to me that he did all of the right things. The new doctor gave me two new prescriptions. I went and got them today and they are Spiriva and Advair. I don't know why he would give me both. I called and was told that one has a steroid and the other doesn't. It still doesn't make sense. They are very expensive and will I can't afford them and they will put in the donut-hole. If I really have PF they probably won't even help me. I guess all I can do is wait for my appointment at the UWMC. I'm finding it all very upsetting. My GP says that I got bad way too fast for emhysema. I got bad like PF. I hope I don't get

worse before that appointment. It is over two months away. You are so lucky to have good doctors that you trust. Someone looked at my house last week but once again he didn't buy. If I'm going to live longer maybe I can't afford to sell it for what I am asking. :-DBeverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia IdahoSubject: Re: Coughing And Retinal DetachmentTo: Breathe-Support Date: Wednesday, October 7, 2009, 1:15 PM

Beverley Joy, Great to hear from you and I hope your new pulmonologist is still working out for you. I have had the luck of having very good doctors, and mostly that means knowledgeable and caring. My eye doctor I have known since her was in medical school, so we go back a long way. He did refer me to a retina specialist, whom I didn't know. Keep on living well, and I will always hope that the winds are blowing your way, but never too hard.:-D

Out of curiousity, I have looked on the internet and found that hard or excessive coughing can result in retinal detachment. I had been a little lax in getting my cough under control, but no doubt I will call my pulmonologist and get serious about it.

You are right about the frustration and confusion. I will start the new meds tomorrow but dry throat is one of the side affects and I already have that all of the time.I do enjoy your posts.I believe that Washington and Oregon coasts are the best places to live. Where I am living here in Blanchard , Idaho it is too hot in th summer and too cold with way too many feet of snow in the winter. Oh I can HEAR the frustration & confusion in your 'voice' Beverley.... this is such a hard part of having PF..all the changing opinions about what it IS or is NOT!

Hang in there...try the new meds & see if they make a difference ...that's all you really can do.

Hugs,
