Guest guest
<I can't remember if he has tried the vitamin E enemas to stop the bleeding with any success or not - just a reminder that it might help because these things can slip our minds at time. <Also, I can remember whether he had a colonoscopy or not. He's been doing vitamin E mixed with half a cortisone enema occasionally. It helps when he does it, but he's not consistent with it. He's done them 3 of the last 4 nights since the bleeding got worse. He realized yesterday, after not using one the night before, that the bleeding was way worse. That's when he decided to go back on SCD and do the enemas more regularly. He had a colonoscopy back in July when he was officially diagnosed. At that time the GI doc started talking about removing the last 14 inches of his colon to " cure " him. We started SCD 2-1/2 weeks later. <Hard lessons for kids to learn, but I am glad that he realizes that it helps and the junk food just isn't worth it. <If the LDN doesn't seem to work or causes other problems (other than strange dreams and sleeplessness for the first couple of weeks), he could have a yeast problem --LDN and yeast do NOT work together. The only " junk food " he ate was the gluten free cookie dough (homemade). That's the frustrating thing - he wasn't eating much junk food before all of this happened. He's been gluten free for several years and dairy free/light for his whole life. Only eaten at Mcs 2-3 times in his whole life. I've always been fanatical about feeding my kids good, healthy, whole foods. His stool test from a couple of months ago showed that he has no yeast or any type of bad bacteria at all, so hopefully the LDN can start working right away. The plan is to just try to make it through the rest of the week back on SCD where he was and then do intro foods for the weekend and plan ahead for next week to eat mostly stage 1 foods. Believe me, this is hard for a 15 year old boy who eats around 5,000 calories a day, especially when he can't do much dairy (no yogurt, cheesecake, etc.). I've been doing SCD with him the whole time and have gained 8 pounds. So I'll be skipping all the nut stuff this time around. Thanks for the feedback! One thing Jodi suggested was doing a stool test for 3 days running, because sometimes something is missed the first time that appears later on. Apparently you can get those at Quest which is covered by insurance. > > The plan is to just try to make it through the rest of the week back on SCD where he was and then do intro foods for the weekend and plan ahead for next week to eat mostly stage 1 foods. Cocoa butter cake with cocoa butter frosting! It's addictive. And you can make the cake with whatever nut flour you can tolerate. Also, have you tried the coconut yogurt? It's also addictive and a zillion calories right there. recipe in the files. Good luck with the plan. Mara > I've been doing SCD with him the whole time and have gained 8 pounds. The frosting sounds really good though and I'm sure he'd like that. He loves almond butter brownies, which have a ton of calories. Adding some frosting would probably be a big hit. > Also, have you tried the coconut yogurt? It's also addictive and a zillion calories right there. I'll try this when school is out and I have a little more time. I work 4 days a week as a PE teacher and have 4 kids who are all trying to finish up end of the year projects, etc. along with one who's graduating. The thought of adding anything to my " normal " cooking and baking is a bit overwhelming right now. Thanks! Liz
