Guest guest
I think the issue is if you eat too many of them. Too much fruit and honey and sweet things can promote yeast. Much of this is trial and error as a food that one person tolerates, another one does not. I know you are keeping a food journal to see what he tolerates and does not tolerate. Just go slowly and in moderation. If you don't want to try bananas- and he is getting bored, try stewed apples with a little cinnamon. Eventually though, I think you will want to try bananas too. This is a good question for the pecan bread forum as there are lots of experienced moms there. I'm here for GI issues, but this is what I have learned so far. I don't think bananas would be there on the diet if they were a major problem. So way back when we were just starting dietary intervention I became familiar with a sorta stigma attached to Bananas. I heard that they make our ASD kids nuts or promote yeast or cause allergies, cravings or phenols/oxalate's etc..... Pooping is not great but better... At least no more watery diarrhea & Oliy/tar with undigested food particles. The last thing I want to do is jeopardize that, on the other hand he is getting bored with the limited/restricted foods & just 1 fruit. He still can't handle vegetables, too much ruffage i guess causes him loose stools, so shouldn't bananas be binding & good for him???? But will they cause negative behaviors is the other question??? > > Any and all suggestions would be big help, I know this is not a big deal to some people I mean they are just bananas right? Guest guest
I peel, core and slice them and put them in the crock pot, for a long time, and they get all mushy. Or just cook them on the stove like a stew. Guest guest
I don't add liquid in the crock pot, but you do have to add a little on the stove and watch carefully- add if needed. I don't add honey because I don't need the calories, but kids would like it better with honey- but too much honey promotes yeast, so add as tolerated. Guest guest
For a snack I often peel and core and apple, then cut it into about 30 slices (cut into 8ths, then each 8th cut into 3rds or 4ths). I add one 1/2 tablespoon of butter (trying to gain weight) and some cinnamon (I always eyeball it) to a small sauce pan. Simmer on low for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Good luck! I don't add liquid in the crock pot, but you do have to add a little on the stove and watch carefully- add if needed. I don't add honey because I don't need the calories, but kids would like it better with honey- but too much honey promotes yeast, so add as tolerated.
