Guest guest
I was just wondering about the post-ops experiences immediately after surgery. What did you do the several days you spent in the hospital right after surgery, besides sleep? How soon after surgery were you allowed to shower and wash your hair again? Was it hard to shower and wash hair again? What did you do during those long days? I think with Dr. Hess the patient stays in the hospital for 7 days, then goes out for 3, then back for staples removed. I was just wondering about what I would be doing during those 7 days in the hospital. Will I be so tired I won't care about doing anything other than sleeping? Guest guest
Carole, I was in the hosptial for 4 days including the day of surgery (released on day 5 in late afternoon) For the first 2 days all I did was SLEEP and more SLEEP! I didnt care what was going on around me as I was soooooo sleepy! Day 3 I got my shower with help as I was too tired and weak to do it alone and slept alot that day too. Turned on tv but fell asleep with it on! Slept most of the day on day of discharge too. Seems it took several weeks to get over being so tired! Carole Hey Carole-- I don't know, but I will post all about it in a couple of weeks! I am going in for surgery Wednesday 10/24, and will be there for about 5 days-- the recovery from the anesthesia is usually what kicks your butt into sleepy land for a few days-- it takes a while for the drugs to filter out. Then you are on such nice pain killing drugs you probably woulnd't care if you were given radioactive waste materials to hold! At least I am hoping the drugs are that nice. After that, you get to deal with the physical effects of being hit by a truck. (or being cut open and re-arranged). Nan E. Guest guest
Nan, You nailed it on the head.....I was loopy for the first week after surgery. I was in the hospital for days (I had an open procedure btw). When I got home I was very tired/sore/in a fog. It was a very weird feeling I think it has something to do with the anesthesia and the pain meds they give you. The second week I felt a bit better. But I sincerely felt almost completely normal 2 1/2 months later dont get me wrong I wasnt sore after the 3 weeks but the drugs in your system just make you feel weird...*shrugs* I am not explaining it very well. But the bright side is that everyone feels better eventually! Lisbeth Hey Carole-- I don't know, but I will post all about it in a couple of weeks!
