Hi folks,

I forgot to call the Gluten-Free Pantry during regular business hours this

week to determine GFCF status of their chocolate truffle brownie mix. Does

anyone know if it's okay?

Ingredients: sugar, dutch cocoa, rice flour, cornstarch, potato starch,

chocolate chips (sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soya lecithin, GF

vanilla extract), xanthan gum, salt.

Thanks,

BJ

Hi BJ,

It's GFCF and Austin's favorite treat.

No way! Cocoa butter is not a dairy product! On page 62 of Special Diets

for Special Kids, describes it as coconut oil and recommends

replacing butter or margarine in recipes with 3/4 the amount with

unprocessed organic coconut butter.

Neither coconut butter nor cocoa butter are dairy products. Coconut butter

has anti-fungals in it, however, whereas cocoa butter might contain fungus

(depending upon whether they take the cocoa butter out of the cacao beans

before or after they ferment them to make chocolate.)

Yes, this is OK. I have used it many times, and in my opinion, it is

the best GFCF brownie mix out there. It tastes like the REAL THING,not

like chocolate flavord sand.

I believe this is not correct. Cocoa butter, to my understanding,

contains no dairy. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.
