Guest guest
> > is saccharin a good choice for someone with yeast overgrowth? > As an adult on SCD for many years (and one who consulted on this with Elaine) I have used both saccharin and honey on SCD and am very satisfied with saccharin Saccharin is useful for me in hot and cold beverages, sometimes in food AFTER it has been cooked. Saccharin was cited as causing cancer in rats but got a clean bill of health in recent years as safe for humans. I used saccharin all during WW 2 b/c my step-father was diabetic and kept it at home. (I was always on weight loss diets and looking to delude myself that saving a few calories in coffee would make a difference) Saccharin is a CHEMICAL. Some parents feel strongly against giving a chemical to their children. I have exterme chemical sensitivities yet they do not appear to apply to saccharin. Here is what the saccharin organization says about itself: http://www.saccharin.org/ Hopethis helps with your choice. CarolF. Guest guest
At 02:17 AM 4/16/2010, you wrote: like most of the evidence against it's ban was that the bladder cancer it caused in rats could be explained from something else, but then the article ends with the lovely note that " Saccharin has, however, also been linked to thyroid cancer in mice " Yep, and interestingly enough, according to Elaine, all that data about saccharin came out just about the time aspartame was being introduced. Elaine considered saccharin to be as safe as any food -- and safer than grains. I don't use it, myself, but it's very helpful for people who want something sweet, yet can't tolerate a lot of fruit or honey. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
