Guest guest
Vicks vapor rub is an analgesic - which is probably why it is recommended. It works great. Though I don't have that problem so have never used it forthat issue. I find it really helpful for other things though. MaraAnyone have any advice on hemorrhoids? I have searched online and found many sites recommending Vick’s vapor rub, of all things! I don’t think I’ll be using that. I am using a cream, which is keeping things comfortable for me, but I wonder if anyone has any success with shrinking/eliminating hemorrhoids. Guest guest
Someone in this group told me to use Key.E Carlson suppositories with natural vitamin E - this would be for internal hemorrhoids - some health food stores might have them but I just " google " them to find the best price. Guest guest
unfortunately no experience shrinking or eliminating though I've heard the surgery to eliminate is not worth it - but when mine flare up I have found sitz baths (a basin filed with water shaped like a toilet from a health supply store) is helpful but also I ask doc for a prescription for proctofoam - it numbs and feels so much better BUT the best and it's awful -is to push them back in if they're out - doc did it once I thought I'd die but helped SO much after i had my 4th child eileen > > > > Anyone have any advice on hemorrhoids? Guest guest
Well that would explain why the Vicks works then. It sounded a little crazy to me, but a lot of people posted they found relief with using the Vicks for hemorrhoids. Maybe I will give it a try. Guest guest
My hemorrhoids are external. That sounds like it would be painful to have internal hemorrhoids that have come out. Ouch! I have read that others found the sitz bath helpful. Some even suggest alternating the warm sitz bath with ice compresses. Maybe I am hoping for too much trying to find a way to shrink or eliminate hemorrhoids. Maybe I will be stuck with these. Thanks for your reply. Guest guest
I have them... I am also a staunch supporter of using natural methods and products. I've noticed that the more I get my diet/elimination under control, the better the pain and suffering! As for simply alleviating the pain, sitz baths do work great - and if you can find an astringent herbal one, they are the best. You can look for sitz bath recipes online, especially if you browse around the postpartum section of herbal therapies. Sometimes, just an epsom salt bath works. Witch hazel can be helpful because it is also astringent (astringents help to "tighten" the vessel walls, thus contracting the vein/ hemorrhoid). The prepared witch hazel you buy in the store can have alcohol or other ingredients which sometimes sting, but I still keep a few cotton balls saturated with witch hazel in the freezer, just in case it's too much to bear. The cold really helps too! It stings for a second, then goes away. You can buy witch hazel herb and just make that into a tea and keep a small bottle of it on the back of toilet, then I just wipe with it whenever I'm in there. That can really help. As for as internal help - I know supplements are pretty much illegal on the diet, but any supplement which is known for assisting 'vein strength' can help. Eating TONS and TONS of blueberries can tone the veins. Other herbs I know of are horse chestnut (internally) and there are a few others you could research. I'm approaching it from the perspective of getting my digestion in order, because I think it's the elimination probs that are causing them. Oh yeah - and toning the perineum muscles (kegal exercises) can help as well. Good luck! Yes, the vitamin E and sitz baths DID shrink it. Thrombosed in this case means filled with blood (like a clot, I suppose) and gradually the warm baths and vit E did make all that disappear. I guess it reabsorbed. My hemorrhoids are external, but I did read one suggestion to use vitamin E oil, so I can give that a try. Did the suppositories shrink or eliminate your hemorrhoids? Guest guest
, I'm not sure if you can count me as two, but I think the hemorrhoid I had, which used to bleed everytime I pooped, has gone away on SCD. It hasn't bled in months. I didn't have a lot of pain with it, so it's hard to tell without going to the doctors since mine was internal, but no blood, no pain. Guest guest
I must have missed your initial reply, but sometimes Yahoo does that to me. Recently there were responses to posts about Holly and organizing. I could read the original post in other’s responses, but I didn’t ever get the original post from Holly. Anyway, glad to read your hemorrhoids went away. It gives me hope I can get rid of mine, too. I think my hemorrhoids are from severe diarrhea, not from a food sensitivity. I was surprised, and asked my doctor about it since I wasn’t constipated or straining (what I thought was the most common cause of hemorrhoids). He said diarrhea could also cause them. They have just developed when I went through a severe flare. From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of jeunef@... Guest guest
My first hemmie was caused by D as well. It's just a shriveled up piece of skin now. Lovely visual, isn't it ;-). Too bad the skin was never able to completely shrink away, but I guess it was stretched out for too long (another lovely visual). Maybe someday I can get it " snipped " off.
