Guest guest
Cindy, Most of the time when sensory disordered children spin it is because they are craving vestibular input. If a child does this often, then they would be said to have an underresponsive vestibular system, which causes lots of different issues. Some of these symptoms can be things like auditory processing disorder, dyspraxia (incoordination), etc. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but even for " typical " children you can test this theory yourself. If you know of a child who LOVES roller coasters, spinning, etc., find out if they had a difficult time with handwriting. From what I have observed, 9 times out of 10 they did. It is really fascinating. A really good book to read is called Sensory Integration and the Child by A. Jean Ayers. There are probably some good websites as well if you do a search for " vestibular system " or " sensory integration " or " sensory integration disorder " . in TX
Guest guest
Cindy, I just reread your message and I'm wondering if the supplements you are giving your son are causing his vestibular system to be less responsive. If the supplements are causing him to spin, they are affecting his vestibular system.
