Guest guest
Merf Ultimately, you need to listen to your doctors. However, since they've expressed no reason not to take the vaccines, I would personally get them. I am not seeing a lot of drugs that are leading to contraindication of flu vaccines. And, while the trial co-ordinator is saying they haven't tested. Well, many drugs haven't been tested against the flu vaccines and the drug you're on is not new and unique as it is already marketed for PH. I haven't heard of any such drugs leading doctors to recommend against the flu vaccines and frankly it seems illogical to me that there would be a conflict. Now, thats not saying there can't be. We might find that taking Vitamin B12 and eating Avocado and having the H1N1 vaccine causes some strange rash. The only contraindication I'm really aware of is egg allergies. For the mist, there are many others but not that I can find for the shot. Actually, there are many meds that increase the need for the vaccines. Also, the only warnings I see on Ambrisentan are Cyclosporine A, Strong CYP3A and 2C19 inhibitors, and Inducers of P-gp, CYPs and UGTs. That is amazingly few interactions for such a strong drug. > > My trial co-ordinator called today to give me updates on the H1N1 and flu shots today. Right up til now I was told not to get them as they hadn't tested them against the trial drug. The results are just as confusing as rocket science to me. They said the shots will not affect the drug as it is not a live virus. But what they don't know is how the drug will affect the flu shots. Or if I am getting 5mg will it affect it less than if I am on 15mg. Not to mention if it is placebo it is all for nothing. Unofficially I am probably getting some of the drug due to my reaction after the first 2 infusions. What dose who knows. Also it is possible that the drug could diminish the effect of the shots but they don't know to what degree. If I get a reaction is it from the shot or the trial drug reacting to it? They just don't know. So the question is, do I or don't I. I am leaning towards getting it as I believe in being proactive rather than reactive and let the chips fall where they may. I guess I am just looking for varying comments. Help! > Merf2 IPF 05 >
Guest guest
Merf I did confuse which trial you were participating in. Sorry for any confusion. You're in the Enbrel trial aren't you? If so, the information still is much the same since it is an approved medication for other purposes. > > > > My trial co-ordinator called today to give me updates on the H1N1 and > flu shots today. Guest guest
Bruce I am in a class II trial for CNTO888. As far as I know it is not approved for anything. This is still early stages according to my pulmodude. As of last week there was only 30 in North America on it. But hey we have to start somewhere, right. I am still leaning to get the shots, not just for me. I don't want to be a carrier and infect my wife or my grandchildren or anybody else.
