Guest guest
I've been on SCD for 2 years and was doing great. I had a scheduled trip to China to visit my boyfriend's relatives and tour around for 2 weeks. Before coming I tried rice to make sure I would be ok here and I was doing fine with it. The first week of my trip was great, I was eating some rice but sticking as close to SCD as possible. My digestion seemed to be really strong. Then I had some dumplings which are wrapped in wheat flour pastry and got really sick. I had stomach pain almost instantly and a bad headache. Then I got diarhea and a rash on my chest (had it before probably from wheat exposure those times too). It's been 48 hours and I'm still having diarhea constantly. I'm pretty sure I did not get food poisoning as the timing of having wheat just couldn't have been a coincidence, I haven't had any nausea, vomiting, or chills. It's really hard here to eat SCD. Well, actually I would say impossible if you are eating in restaurants. Everything is cross-contaminated, everything is stir-fry, even the chicken soup seems like it has something in it that isn't agreeing with me. I'm not exactly sure what to do the rest of my trip, but for now I'm looking for help on staying hydrated. My entire time on SCD I haven't had to worry about staying hydrated so I never really tried making electrolyte drink mixes or anything. Just wondering if someone can help me, what can I add to water or broth to help stay hydrated? I'm able to eat meat and bananas, and I have some coconut oil and honey with me. Thanks to anyone who can help. I hope I don't discourage everyone from visiting China, it is really beautiful here. I think if I had avoided wheat I would have been fine. Needless to say, I'm 100% sure now that I have Celiac disease, and Dermatitis Herpetiformis (rash associated with Celiac). Kat
Guest guest
Kat, so so sorry you are so sick. the chicken soup may likely have corn starch in it. Perhaps someone--your bfriend-? can get some chicken and make you some simple stock with just chicken and salt. Keep us posted. Guest guest
I'm able to have chicken soup for today and tomorrow morning at my relative's house. After that it's another 8 days of traveling and eating restaurant food only. I just don't know what to even try eating. They don't tend to make any plain boiled meat here. We keep asking for plain boiled chicken but I'm pretty sure they're adding something to the broth. Maybe I should just remove the meat from the broth and eat that on its own.
