Guest guest
I just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone has experienced this. My 15 year old daughter who has celiac disease is on BTVC. She has been on Lexapro 15 mg for awhile. and on various anxiety meds off and on in the last 4 years. She's been doing so well with her anxiety that the counselor said it was time to start weaningher down. So, I put her at 12 1/2 and then a week later at 10 mg. I thnik I was going too fast. Well, she started to get dizzy. We decided to deal with this in the summer so I put her back to 12 1/2 and then 15 mg, her original dose. She's still been dizzy. We saw an ENT yesterday and she thinks it's vertigo and she sent her for vistibulation rehab. It didn't help. So, the therapist said it might take a few sessions. and she feels it is an inner ear thing causing this. We flew on a plane in March and also her seasonal allergies are really bad right now. I just wondered if anyone has had a similar situation. Do you think it's the Lexapro causing the dizziness, even though she's back to her original dose? and what do we do? I'd appreciate any feedback, advice, etc. Marla P. I'm realize proponent of iron supplements and considers them illegal (unless they can't be avoided), but I'm pretty much out of options...I' ve been eating red meat and spinach like it's my job and my Blood level was a pathetic 5.7 (I think ~24 - 250 is considered normal). I can't handle the chicken liver route, any suggestions on a quasi-legal supplement? Thanks in advance.Well, first of all, let me say that I truly and sincerely dislike liver. Elaine used to tease me about it.However, two years ago, when I had my cancer surgery, my oncologist said that she would have two units of blood standing by for after the surgery if it was needed, and I might very well need to take an iron supplement. I said, "No iron supplement. I do... liver..." So I figured if I had to do... liver... it had better be the best quality I could find, and I settled on the notion of grass-fed bison liver. (Usinger's Sausage in Milwaukee has two liverwursts, one which appears to be legal, and one which clearly lists sugar on the label. I can't tell from the website which one is which.)Anyway, I came up with a decent recipe, and made bison pate. I recommend Black Wing Meats for your bison liver.I also recommend ostrich filet ($$$) from Black Wing. It's a red meat, with very high protein, and super good for building the blood.I can state that I needed no units of blood, and my surgeons were stunned at how quickly I recovered from the surgery. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
It is common to have " brain Zaps " when coming off an antidepressant. This needs to be done very gradually and slowly. Guest guest
Marla, Has her B12 level been checked? I know for me that once I started giving myself B12 shots that the dizziness I was experiencing went away, never to return. It would be nice if it were that simple for your daughter. I would also get dizzy if I was dehydrated. I guess there are lots of reasons for dizziness. I hope you find the answer! Carol CD 22 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Dusty Pruett I've asked you all about this a few weeks ago and I thank you for your response. But I'm back. My 15 year old daughter who is on SCD has been dizzy for a month and 1/2. We are now getting an MRI, seeing an audiologist and neurologist. No one knows what is causing it. and it is actually getting worse as the weeks go by. She had a head cold and we flew on a plane in March. In April I started to lower her Lexapro and then the dizziness started. I ended up bumpling it back up to the original dose and she's been at that dosage for a month and still dizzy and getting worse. Just wondered if anyone had any tips or suggestions. Marla p. .. Guest guest
Marla, The IV is important so they can see the MRI. It's not iodine contrast like CT's. After you weed through some stuff and you have gotten ideas from folks on group you can also read about; inner ear disorders; http://www.vestibular.org/ Jodi > > > > She has no fillings at all in her mouth. But she does have braces and a huge appliance in her mouth to help her jaw. Just thought I'd mention that. > > Marla P. >
Guest guest
Marla Sounds like you’re seeing all the right specialists. I deal with frequent episodes of dizziness all the time (most days average 5 to 8 episodes), and have been through a battery of tests. They looked at my spine, my brain, my cardiovascular system, my nervous system, frequent trips to the lab for blood workups. So far nothing has turned up to explain it definitively, but at least I had all the tests to reassure me. I remember seeing two neurologists, audiologist, opthamologist, orthopedicist, endocrinologist (thinking it might be a metabolic issue). I’ve talked about it with my gastroenterologist and my primary care physician as well. My neurologist suspects it is being triggered by shifts in my spine (I have vertebra damage in my neck as well as thoracic and lumbar). Sometimes I can tell the dizziness is triggered by how my body is moving – the spine, in other words. Sometimes the dizziness improves after I’ve boosted my electrolytes. I can get dizzy with migraines, which I get fairly often. But I often get bouts of dizziness at 3 am, along with nausea and right upper quadrant abdominal pain, so I’m guessing my upper GI disorders are to blame in part, perhaps zapping my vagus nerve. It is probably a combination of a lot of problems. I just deal with the symptom, make sure I don’t drive during an episode. I’m grateful I’m not dealing with seizures. I would ask the neurologist about looking for Chiari’s malformation. That is a condition that often shows up in adolescence. I have the symptoms consistent with this condition but not the bone malformation, and I’m certainly well past adolescence [grin]. But something to consider. I believe the MRIs I had of the brain and cervical spine looked for this or any other bone malformation. It is good to get tests, reassuring in fact when nothing turns up. But then you are left with the symptoms. Sometimes there aren’t any easy answers. Kim M. Guest guest
Hey Kim M, Did they ever rule out Syringomyelia for you? Many that have Chiari have this but some just have the syrinx's and they cause a barrage of neuro issues. Jodi
