, who is now 3.5 years and 16 pounds with confirmed RSS, has always

developed a reaction to whatever food he has been on after 2.5 months. Any

milk/feed retried after an interval lasts only 1 -3 weeks second time around

before he suffers real discomfort, is unable to get up and spends all day

moaning and sticking his fingers in his eyes. Even regular foods such as yoghurt

produce the same reaction over time. Only complete stomach rest and

hospitalisation appears to be able to reset his system but costs him more weight

than he gained on any new milk. His success with a rice diet has been much

greater in terms of quality of life and stability but has gained him no weight.

Basic allergy tests for milk, egg protein etc show up nothing significant, and

the best that I and his gastroenterologist have been able to come up with is

that he cannot cope with any one protein for any length of time - hence the idea

of now starting formula rotation.

I did suggest this to previous doctors several years ago after being introduced

to the new visions feeding site in Virginia by the Magic Foundation 2002

convention but at that time his doctors refused to consider the idea.

Has anyone tried formula rotation and for what reasons?

What formulas did you try? (milk, soy, elemental, meat protein based)? - not

many of these are available in Japan.

Did you consider home-made blenderized formulas?

What interval did you use for rotation - 24 hours, 1 week, 2 weeks?

any advice would be much appreciated.

Debi, mother to in Japan(3.5 years, RSS, 8 kilos, 83 cm) and Sora (6

months, non rss, 8 kilos, 65 cm)

i am not sure about this but the doctor put my son on raw goats milk for about

two months and he cleared up really well from intolerable stomach conditions. he

seemed to digest it very well. be sure to check with a doctor first. my doctor

was old fasioned and used old methods for my son and he is fine for the most

part. regards gracewithin
