Guest guest
Can anyone tell me about their experiences with insulin dumping? , who is now 3.5 years, did not have an inherent blood sugar problem until after his pyroplasty operation at age 1 which ended up opening the bottom of his stomach too far. Having spent 18 months on a rice diet, he gained no weight and is now on a continuous pump regime with an elemental formula of broken down proteins (and hence higher sugar content) for suspected protein allergies. This has highlighted just how serious his insulin dumping now is. A glucose tolerance test sent his blood sugars plummeting below 30 and he has trouble now coping with an IV drip. For now, we have agreed to the 24 hour feeding regime to try and control the volatility in BS. The current formula however appears to be too easily digestible and through trial and error the doctors have agreed to add 200 mls per day of Rice Dream (more complex sugar content) and 200 ml of breast milk (which is protecting the intestinal wall more). BS levels have stabilized a little around 60 but I would really appreciate anyone sharing their experiences. many thanks.
