Guest guest
I am using cranial technologies in san diego for my 6 month old son. He has been on the DOC Band for 3 weeks, and we have seen so much improvement. I was never given any numbers for him but he was very flat from the back and one side of his head was flatter than the other side. We have seen a lot of improvement. I love that with the DOC Band we go in every week. My insurance did not pay for it, they wanted us to do pt first, then they would see if they will pay. We did not want to take chances so we just paid for it. We are making payments of $500 a month. I really like cranial tech. Our ortho is Alyssa. She is very good. Good luck to you and baby. in San Diego.Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerryFrom: "albrodhagen" Date: Thu, 09 Jul 2009 20:10:13 -0000<Plagiocephaly >Subject: Experience with DOC Band/Cranial Technologies in San Diego? I wrote last month regarding my then four month old daughter who was diagnosed with plagiocephaly/brachycephaly. We have been going to physical therapy and using repositioning for two months now. Today we went in for her 3rd PT appt (also her five month birthday) and we are being referred to Cranial Technologies in San Diego for her to be fitted for a DOC Band. The plagiocephaly assymetry is now better at 5mm (it was 6 mm) but the brachycephaly is now at 98% (we started at 99.5%), slightly impoved but not the kind of change the PT wanted to see. The PT said we could try another month of repositioining before making a referral but i'm skeptical if she could really improve enough in that period to justify losing a month's time. Given the process, it will still be about five weeks from today until she is actually wearing it and that's if there are no insurance/referral issues. Does anyone have any advice for me on that? I hope the numbers i'm using make sense- i'm new to this:-) I was told our insurance (Anthem Blue Cross HMO) will not cover a Starband. I'm wondering if anyone could share their experiences with Cranial Technologies and/or the DOC band in general. The responses I got last month were extremely useful in helping me advocate for my daughter so thank you so much. I would greatly appreciate any advice! Guest guest
CT told me that insurance would request a repositioning letter from me and from Nina's doctor as well as the prescription from the doctor. I asked them if they had a sample that I could give to the doctor, and she e-mailed one to me right away which I then faxed the doctor. I wrote my letter and e-mailed it back to her, and I followed up with the doctor's office the day after I faxed it to make sure they had it. CT had all of these things back within a few days. They said they would take care of getting the stuff from the doctor, but since Nina was 13 months old already, I didn't want to wait. If you want to get a jump on the insurance part, I would suggest calling CT and asking them for that form letter for your doctor. If you have a hard time, let me know and I will see if I can find the one I had and e-mail it to you. The letter I wrote basically said how long we tried repositioning, physical therapy, etc. Good luck!
