Guest guest
Hi Guys, Just wanted to post this since it seems to be in the mainstream media today. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine recently released data that shows milk does not help bone development in children. While it does have nutritional value of proteins and the added vitamin D, the PCRM suggests better sources of calcium or dark, leafy veggies and fortified OJ. Also, the best way to develop strong bones is via weight bearing exercise. As you might imagine, the American Dairy Association stands by the stance that milk helps with bone development. The American Academy of Pediatricians stands by milk's " other " benefits. ((Also, just so you know the context of the organization publicizing this data, the PCRM's stance has been-at least for the last 6 years-- that milk should not be a major part of anyone's diet over age 1. )) Not putting this here to promote an online debate, but would encourage you to speak with your children's doctors and do your own research. I believe this issue is particularly important with RSS children, since we are not just concerned with linear height, but bone strength and health. Not only do we want to give the calories, but we want each calories to pack as much nutritional punch as possible! Personally, I don't know what we would have done without milk or cheese in 's first 3 years!!! Katy
