Guest guest
I'm adding to my question...so if yogurt is good and I've started eating it... it sounds like I should maybe take probiotics in addition to the yogurt?Calcium in the dairy is an additional bonus. You further increase benefits by adding probiotics to yogurt once your child becomes accustomed to it and die off reaction has stopped. Consuming the probiotic at the same time as the yogurt could help the probiotics survive better during their travel inside the intestinal tract. But I haven't figured out what is causing the major C. Maybe if I stick with this diet. Maybe I should add stewed prunes???michelleTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, April 12, 2010 7:35:15 PMSubject: supplement advice If I'm coming off the intro (for the second time). Would anyone tell me what they think I should look into? I see lots of reference to supplements and don't know where I should start. I take cod liver oil but that's it. I've been reading on LDN. Should I try S. Boulardii? I'm confused and need guidance. I have sucky insurance and a useless gastro. I went to a natural doc but he wanted me to take probiotics with FOS (swore they would help me) and he wanted me to take aloe. You're who I rely on. And I'm not sure if I should go back on the asacol. I think it was helping or was it the diet? Now I'm off the asacol after a couple months and I and major C. But maybe that was me introducing almond flour and eating too much bread too soon. Thanks for any advice,UC 12/
Guest guest
Hi - I got UC around the same time 9/09 and the healing has been very slow for me. Asacol put me on my death bed. SCD made life manageable but I kept hitting roadblocks. However now,I feel like I've just turned the corner (6 months into it) not completely healed but I am able to introduce foods easier. I have not been using any medication, but I do take packets of unflavored VSL3 which have been very helpful, under the supervision of a holistic nurse. You can however order it yourself, www.vsl3.com. Technically it's not SCD legal and neither are the supplements that I have taken. I too take 1 Tbl of Cod Liver Oil a day. The PecanBread site has been helpful for me to follow the stages of food. I have learned that I must add and try things very slowly. Almond flour and any nut things are still way too advanced for me right now. I can eat SunButter (organic w/ green top - it's roasted sunflower seeds made into creamy butter) and have made those delicious nut butter brownies with it. And I can not tolerate any dairy, including the yogurt. Although, I've just learned and started going to a very interesting place to deal with food sensitivies - Advanced Allergy Therapeutics - we'll see if that helps w/ dairy. Can not address the C problem, I've only ever had the D problem. Hope this was a little helpful. - > > If I'm coming off the intro (for the second time). Guest guest
I was thinking that the electrolyte drink was for someone with D. Is it good for C too?michelleAlso, if you haven't already, electrolyte drink is great and important.Just whatever you do with supplements, make sure their legal Best,
Guest guest
Yep.http://www.pecanbread.com/new/begindiet1.html " Any other tip? Try the electrolyte drink (http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.org/faq/electrolytedrink.html). It is a big help in the beginning. It doesn't taste great but you can add a splash of juice to give it a better flavor. It is also helpful for those who are constipated, another common beginner's complaint. " their link is broken, it's herehttp://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/electrolyte_drink.htm and I swap the honey for a touch of juice (I avoid honey like the plague)I try to use apple cider 'cause somebody on this list says it has some potassiumI also use pineapple juiceBest I was thinking that the electrolyte drink was for someone with D.
