Guest guest
in IL, Regarding the surgeons, I think that there are still none in Chicago, but there are some in Michagin and Ohio. Revising the RNY to the DS is possible, but difficult. A more common approach is to modify the RNY to a distal RNY. This adds the same malabsorptive component that the BPD/DS procedure has, but it maintains the small pouch for the stomach instead of restoring normal gastric function. If this person is only concerned about the weight rather than the side effect of the RNY than a conversion to distal is appropriate. If this person is very unhappy with the eating restrictions of the RNY then a full conversion to BPD/DS should be considered. The surgeon probably wants this person to wait because it is possible that she is on a long plateau and will loose more weight on her own in the next 6 months. How far is this person from her goal. If her BMI is still greater than 40 or she still has problems with comorbidites than I think that immediate conversion is appropriate. On the other hand, if this person just wants to drop another 30-40 lbs for cosmetic reasons that it would be best to wait and see. Hull > Hi everyone! My name is and I had the DS on 2/28/01.
