Guest guest
I thought I was the only one who ever slept all day, just getting up to eat and didn't feel like getting dressed for days! I have also gone through times like that, and can still do that over the weekend when I don't have to work. I am hoping that getting the DS will give me my energy back and my desire to go out and enjoy life and do new things again! I think one of the best things about the surgery is the increase in self-confidence it gives one. Carole
Guest guest
, , others - Depression seems to be a side effect of this dreadful disease. Many of us have suffered with depression and, hopefully, others will share. I tried wellbutrin in 1992 when I was initially diagnosed with pancreas divisum, but it didn't seem to work for me. My dr. switched me to Celexa, 20 mg. I stayed on that dosage until my attacks returned in 1998. My dr. upped the dosage to 30 mg., and this year, I asked the dr. to up the dosage to 40 mg. I tend to suffer from more anxiety, worry, highs and lows, so the celexa works well for me. I am sure more " even " now, and usually upbeat about life. I also suffer from severe depression when I am going through the withdrawals of meds after a hospitalization, and it is AWFUL!!! Fetal position, crying, and wishing I were dead. I have had it happen so many times, that I know what it is and survive with support from family and friends - this too will pass, and each day gets better. That depression usually lasts a week - my husband has a theory that has proven to be true for me. However many days I have been in the hospital on heavy duty IV pain meds, that is the number of days it takes me to go through the withdrawals, so I usually am in the hospital for five days, so after I come home and start cutting back my oral pain meds after a few days, I will have FIVE more days of HORRIBLE withdrawals, including severe depression, and surely enough, in five days it is gone! Knowing this cycle has helped me cope with these feelings... Give yourself time after major surgery and don't hesitate to ask the dr. for a referral or meds for depression. They really do help.
