Guest guest
Our son is 21 weeks. We had our first consultation at Hanger and measurements listed DS's head at 95% and 14mm asymmetry. He said he has moderate plagio & brachy and recommended we get him a band. He uses the Hanger band and said it was a passive band. He estimated DS could be in it for up to 5 months and said he would estimate we could expect to see a 50% improvement. Not sure I'm all that thrilled with a 50% improvement rate. I mean, sure it would better than it is now, but I would have expected something better considering he's young and if he'd wear the band for 3-5 months. We also have a consultation set up for next week at Cranial Tech. My question: from all the case stories you ladies have heard about other children with similar measurements, do you think he'd need a second band? Quite honestly, that is a KEY factor into our decision whether we'll go with Hanger or Cranial Tech. Thanks for any insight you can give us, we really appreciate it. Guest guest
Hanger babies rarely need a second band because they're good for up to six months. DOCBands are good for up to 4 months because after that, the plastic and holding points lose their strength and it's not as effective. I'm not sure what the ortho means by 50% with regards to the brachy. I guess he means you should hope to get to around 7mm for the plagio? I suppose he's doesn't want to say he can get better if he can't, but I wouldn't be thrilled with the hope of 7mm either, given his age. Did he say anything else about the brachy, because he can't mean 50% of 95% because no normal person has a cephalic index that low, so I'd want more clarification in that area. Hopefully CT will be able to give you a more realistic judgment of whether a second band would be necessary once they see him in person. I would say that they would definitely treat him as if he would only get one band. Good luck! Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5 > > Our son is 21 weeks.
