I think Shirley meant this to go to the list, so I am forwarding it

here.

CENTRAL OBESITY & ACUTE ABDOMINAL COMPARTMENT SYNDROME

Dr. Welker e-mailed me a copy of my LOMN. After reading it, I'm more

worried about my health than before; that's some *scary* stuff!!!

I had some questions about the terms: CENTRAL OBESITY and ACUTE

ABDOMINAL COMPARTMENT SYNDROME.

For those who aren't familiar with the terms, here are his explanations

(in his own words):

" Central obesity is where the fat deposits more in the abdomen than

elsewhere. This causes the pressure in the abdomen to rise.

Higher abdominal pressures predict more comorbid diseases and premature

mortality based on the abnormal function of the intra-abdominal organs

such as kidneys and liver as well as the lungs and heart secondarily.

Higher oxidative damage occurs with increasing athrosclerosis, cancer,

fluid retention, insulin resistance and liver damage and hypertension to

name a few let alone gastroesophageal reflux.

Ever wondered why pregnant women with ecclampsia get better once the

child is delivered? -- Control of the Acute abdominal compartment

syndrome.

It is also why pre-op weight loss is beneficial to reduce the risks of

surgery. This is one of my main areas of research interest. "
