My bmi was 45 so I was on the 'lighter side' of mo -- I think in cases like mine he *may have* leaned more towards the RNY but I think that an informed patient wouldn't be downright rejected... He *may* try to persuade you (particularly if your bmi is in the low-mid 40's or below) or they may not if you fit their definition of someone for whom a DS would be best (usually those with the higher bmis, as this was a surgery originally geared towards this group mainly. Then, it started being offered to any mo patient). He does perform the DS as well as the RNY and VGB. I just think he prefers the RNY for patients who are not extremely mo. Perhaps he sees it as 'less radical' or 'safer' in some way for people who have lower bmis (but still in the mo range). I'm sure he's performed a DS on those with lower bmis as well. I just think the information he usually provides to pre-ops leans more towards the extremely conservative approach in re post-op lifestyle, etc. all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Why would the RNY be considered " less radical " and safer " , as you say, than the DS procedure?
Guest guest
. He did make special > points about the stools and odors after DS...which haven't been a problem You might consider letting Dr Herron know this. Hearing that this isn't a problem for everyone may help give him a better understanding of the range of responses our bodies make to the DS in Seattle
