H1N1 revisited

I hope to get the H1N1 vaccine in the next month or so. Now, on the other side

of the argument. My mother, still alive at 91, was born in February 1918. She

lived through gestation and the remainder of the great pandemic which was not

" over " until spring of 1919. She did not start getting annual flu vaccinations

until she was 645 herself (she is a retired Registered Nurse). She is not

worried about getting the H1N1 vaccine. She has had the regular shot this year.

I have not received flu vaccinations until the last 5 years. I have gone

through many flu seasons, and probably have an immunity, but would love to be

covered with my IPF. If for some reason I do not, I will use reasonable

precautions. With Pulmonary Fibrosis AND diabetes I have two reasons/at risk

qualifiers. Recently a pregnant woman who was 52 died from complications.

Think about it. When women get pregnant, their immune systems go on standby so

as not to " reject " the fetus. She was teaching school here in Utah on Monday

and had died of bacterial pneumonia by Wednesday... what a shocker!! But then

that would be another argument for not having children when you are older

(lol... just kidding, I was 33/35 when I had my kids). Quite a tragedy. Yes,

this particular strain hits children as old as 25 and pregnant women. And, as

pointed out, seems to leave us older ones alone for a change.

Just hang in there guys... get the paperwork and have it filled out.
