Hi! Thought I'd take a minute to tell you this approach didn't work out for

me :o).

I couldn't get an 'appt.' per se with the local RNY doc ... that would waste

time from his seeing patients wanting his services (basically, that's what I

was told). He was, however, very generous in returning my phone call and

carrying on an extensive conversation; he was very nice and very

anti-DS...haha. He said it was clear that I had done my research and knew

what I wanted and that he would not be able to change my mind. He also said

that he does not believe in the BPD/DS and would not be able to help me by

writing a letter to aid in my appeal. I guess that's fair.

I found the conversation amuzing, tho. He tried to tell me that in his 20+

years, there have been no patients with any amount of significant late

weight regain (yeah... right), no revisions due to ineffective outcomes,

blah blah blah .. although he did indicate a high incidence of vomitting.

So ... I have an appointment with another surgeon (whom I've used previously

and wrote a letter for me for my initial request). I think that based on my

severe GERD and Barrett's esophogus, he may write a letter to Cigna stating

that it would be devastating for me to have a procedure that would have

vomitting as a very common side effect when I have already developed

Barretts.

Keep your fingers crossed ... I may not win this appeal before I switch

insurance carriers, but I sure as hell plan on having fun driving them crazy

with all the paperwork they're going to have to review on this next

go-round!!

Take care,

Donna
