In the case of the DS, it means the joining of the two parts of the

intestine that were previously not connected there. Think of a

plumber taking two pieces of pipe and joining them so that they are

one long pipe. Only in surgery staples and sewing are used not glue

The term itself refers to the surgical joining of various things to

allow flow between them.
