Marty,

First of all congratulations!!! wonderful news. We live in Phoenicia and I

would love to talk to you. I went through difficult times finding a

pediatrician(I can even guess who the dr was at your synagogue!) but I have a

good one in Kingston now. Could you e-mail me and I will give you my phone

number. I dont know anyone local on this diet and would love to hear all

about your son. krnstvn@...

Marty -

I am choked up with happiness for you! I am so proud. Way to go !

I am including a copy of a letter our pediatrician wrote for us that

helped tremendously with the school district. Perhaps if you find a

sympathetic doctor you can use this as a template.

Good luck!

Moira

mom to Vico (4.5 ASD) and Culzean (17 months)

Dear LAUSD Administration:

As Vico Giammatteo's pediatrician, I am writing to you to express my

concerns regarding his health. Vico has moderate autism, with severe

speech delays and abnormal social interactions. However, he also has

marked gluten enteropathy and dairy intolerance. He has high levels

of antibodies to gliadin and casein. If he is exposed to wheat, rye,

barley, oats or any dairy product; he suffers persistent vomiting to

the point of dehydration, hives, fever, as well as loss of speech,

tantrums, social withdrawal, and night terrors. The exposure can be

either ingestion or simple skin contact. Hew was devastated for weeks

after playing with wheat-based Play Dough in preschool!

Vico requires one on one school supervision. This adult would mediate

his verbal interactions with other children as well as assure Vico's

safety throughout the school day. Vico needs 30-45 minute speech

therapy at least twice weekly with a therapist familiar with autistic

students.

During the past year Vico has made tremendous gains on his strict

casein and gluten-free diet along with aggressive speech therapy. He

spoke his first sentence and interacted with another child at

preschool! We have great hopes that he will continue to thrive in a

carefully monitored environment.

Sincerely,

First off, mazel tov. Second, dumb suggestion, but have you tried the

DAN website? My daughter's allergist is a DAN doctor, and he's been a

big help with the school district.
