Guest guest
Hi, I am new here and have been struggling if we need to band our son who is 6 months now. My MIL is the person that push us to see a specialist for my son's head shape. SO, we went to CT 3 weeks ago and they said that my son has sever Brachycephaly with right Plagiocephaly. Here are his figures from CTCephalic Index : 92.4%Cranial Vault Asymmetry : 12mmMid-face: 3 mmSkull-Base: 5mmBased on the above measurements, CT clinician recommended us its DOC band.I also heard about the Starband so I took my son to a Starband O & P for his second opinion. Here are the data from StarScanner report just three days after CT hand measurement.Cephalic Ratio: 93.6%RSI: 27.9 (Radial Symmetry Index)PSR: 0.88 or 88%? (Posterior Symmetry Ratio)CVAI index: 5.3OSR: 0.933 (Overall Symmetry Ratio)Base on this report, the Starband OP did not feel we need to band our son. He comment that "Your son's head is fine, maybe a little asymmetry but he does not need a band".Three pediatrics we saw (two in person and one by email photos) do not suggest us to band our son, either. They feel reposition should work but will take long time to see result. Any you know how hard to reposition a 6 month old baby boy at sleeping time... I would like to know your thoughts about my son's measurement. Are they better or worse than your dear baby's figures before s/he start the treatment? Would you band you baby if those are her/his figures?Have a lot of pressure from in-laws... And I worry that if we decide to have him wear a band how discomfort my baby would be...Thanks in advance,Laurie, a don't know what to do mom
Guest guest
Both places you have gone to have given you measurements for the Cephalic Index (Cranial Breadth/Cranial Length) which measures the severity of Brachycephaly and it your case I would say the measurements are severe and warrant a band: ideal ratio - 78% normal - 73-83% moderate - 83.1% to 87.9% severe - 88% and higher It also sounds like your son has some plagiocephaly as well based on the Cranial Vault Asymmetry of 12 mm that CT gave you. 0-3 mm is normal <6 mm is very mild 6-10 mm is mild 10-15 mm is moderate 15+ mm is severe On your STARscanner report, did it give you numbers for Oblique – Diagonal 1 and Oblique – Diagonal 2? If you have those number and subtract the smaller number from the larger one you should get a similar measurement as the Cranial Vault Asymmetry that CT gave you. Despite all the numbers, what it really comes down to is how you feel about the shape of his head. Ask yourself, " If his head doesn't get any better than it is right now, am I OK with that? " If your answer is " yes " then you can probably skip the band. If it's " no " or " I'm not sure " you might want to consider a band. Guest guest
Thank you, Molly. The difference of two Oblique numbers are 8mm. Personally, I think i am ok with his current head shape but I do not know if I will regret that if we choose not to band him... I guess it sounds like that we should give him a try. > > Both places you have gone to have given you measurements for the Cephalic > Index (Cranial Breadth/Cranial Length) which measures the severity of > Brachycephaly and it your case I would say the measurements are severe and > warrant a band: > > ideal ratio - 78% > > normal - 73-83% > > moderate - 83.1% to 87.9% > > severe - 88% and higher > > > > It also sounds like your son has some plagiocephaly as well based on the > Cranial Vault Asymmetry of 12 mm that CT gave you. > > 0-3 mm is normal > > <6 mm is very mild > > 6-10 mm is mild > > 10-15 mm is moderate > > 15+ mm is severe > > > > On your STARscanner report, did it give you numbers for Oblique - Diagonal 1 > and Oblique - Diagonal 2?
