Guest guest
I unfortunately don't know a lot! I can tell you that through the blood test, the endos look for pubertal indicators and I can't recall the names of those tests -- Jodi, is it LH/FSH or something strange like that? That would determine if the child is in GONARDARCHE (and what others call puberty). Puberty technically has two processes, the first being adrenarche. When the adrenal gland produces androgens, and simultaneously during this process, small amounts of androgens are converted into estrogen (and it is this estrogen that begins advancing the child's bone age). It is thought that RSS kids are somehow extra sensitive to estrogen. I have been told by experts that the blood test lab test that they believe is the strongest marker for adrenarche is the DHEA test. Actual name is way too long, but endos will know it is DHEA. So I would make sure that at the appt, you ask the doctor what your child's DHEA levels have been for the last couple of years. For years, 's were around 60-70. Jan 2004 they moved to about 140 or so (Dr. H called that pre-adrenarche) and this year they went to 320 or something like that. However, is NOT in gonadarche at this point. Hopefully, someone will remember what the names of the pubertal blood tests are. Your doctor may have been referring to those tests -- ask about the DHEA levels. JEnn > Jenn, > My daughter is 8. Guest guest
Ellen, Make sure that they do a bone age. My son is not showing signs of adrenarche but does have increased estrogen levels and I know Dr. H wants to have another bone age done. You really want to make sure that her bone age is not advancing too quickly. Pattie > Jenn, > My daughter is 8. We are seeing signs of adrenarche and have an appt with > her endo in 2 weeks.
