Guest guest
My son, Caleb, isn't RSS, just small stature. But I still go thru all the same stuff! Congrats on the growth spurt. He is 4 yrs. old & has his 3rd set of tubes because of constant ear infections! His first set at 18 mos., we took him to the local ENT. The sugery took 1 hr. instead of the regular 15 min. cuz the doc didn't have tools small enough! When the tubes stopped working, we decided to go to a bigger hospital. The dr. at Cedar Sinai (we live about 30 miles outside of LA) has done the last 2 sets of tube & it takes him less that 15 min to do the surgery! It just made me feel more comfortable going to a dr that has more experience with small stature kids. I hope your insurance gives you a choice. I also have a 12 yr old son with BiPolar disorder, ADD, & Obsessive Compulsive Disorder who is being tested next week for auditory processing disorder! When I filled out the questionaire from the audiologist, I was shocked at how many symptoms were the same as ADD. I don't know the difference yet, but anything that can help, I'm all for! His speech teacher said it is very hard to get a school district to pay for the therapy. She said we were very lucky. I hope you do get the evaluation. It is so hard on the other children in the house! My middle son is 9 and stuck between these 2 special needs boys. I think these 'normal' kids are the ones that become the doctors, researchers, & social workers of the world. My son has developed so much empathy & patience because of his situation in life. Don't get me wrong, he is a pill sometimes & hates that he has to be in the middle of all of this! But at the same time, nobody else understands & defends the small stature & /or 'special' kids of the world! I suggest find something about your daughter that you can focus on- her empathy, her art work, etc. & praise her often! Good luck! Remember you are doing the best you can for your kids! Don't forget yourself too! You are special!
