Guest guest
Cindy, Hi, I'm Bob and I am an ER RN. I too have the same diet history as you. Well Guess what? My surgery with Dr. R. is at 11:30 tomorrow. I am scarred to death, but excited as well. You know what that little bit of medical knowledge does to us... Those poor nurses that have to take care of me. Well Nurse to Nurse I will not lie. I will e-mail ya back next week after its all over and give you the scoop. Now remember I am a nurse, and a big male whimp to boot. Can't imagine you all having babies.... I hurt through my whole OB rotation. I had a kidney stone a few years ago. I see labor & Delivery in a whole new light now. I guess Dr. R. would die if I ask him for an epidural.... maybe for about 2 weeks post op... Ha Ha. Well wish me luck tomorrow, I'll keep ya posted. Back to my last bag of Cracker Jacks. LOL Bob

Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Cindy! Please don't start smoking again!! If you need reinforcement on that, just know that Dr. R. requires you give up smoking to have this surgery! And if you already have ulcers, smoking will only aggravate them. There's a lot of information on the official website: http://www.clos.net and I have a website that has pictures of just about everything to do with going to Durham for the surgery. It also has pictures of a lot of the people whose names you'll see here. http://www.fourlane.com/mgb Kind regards, > Hi everyone! My name is Cindy and I will be 30 tommorrow. Guest guest
Hey Robin, This is too cool. My Mom is an RN too. In fact, we went to school together. Her oldest sister was an RN. After being fed up at work one day (she a ward clerk, me an aide, another of her sisters and LPN) we all dared each other to go to RN school. TA-DA! All three in nursing school at the same time - a delightful support system for studying and traveling to clinicals. We graduated from State College. (Their dad " pinned " us inbetween our first and second years. He has since died so those pictures mean a lot to me.) We should get double points for keeping it in the family. Mom works case management, my older aunt is retired now but she worked Med/Surg, my aunt that graduated with us work cancer center I am a clinical drug trial coordinator. Hot dog! Guest guest
Hi Joanna. Thanks for the welcome!I do have coconut oil. I would have never thought of that. I will try it.I am really struggling with the low energy/lethargy thing. It has been a while now. But I guess after suffering with it for years --I foundout from my doctor that I have had this since 2006 not 2007 -- I will have plenty of die off!!!I baked the apples according to the recipe in the book, but I probably didn't bake them long enough. I will try what you said. I may go back on the intro diet nextweek because the health food store is special ordering the farmer cheese for me. Can you freeze the farmer cheese? And I will cut out fruit I think, but there are fresh peaches all around me, and its my favorite fruit!!!!Thanks for the encouragement. I feel so alone sometimes.SCD - almost two weeks.UC since 2006. No meds.Hey - welcome! What you are feeling is totally normal! I did 5 days of the intro and felt just awful- but what did I expect after giving up a caffeine/sugar/carb addiction cold turkey??? So, not only are you probably feeling those effects, but also the effects of die-off, which Misha explained pretty well already. You can have your coffee, but maybe try to ease back into it. Someone suggested a 50/50 ratio (coffee to water) to me to qualify for "weak coffee." It was hard for an espresso drinker like me to do that, but at least I knew I wasn't unraveling all of the hard work I had started. Do you have any coconut oil? If you put a little in there with a little honey it is really good! That is the only thing that got me through having to give up my "normal" coffee. How did you make your fruit when it made you feel bloated? I was okay with apples right away, but a lot of people say that pears are easier to digest. You could try just making a pear sauce (peel them and cut into chunks and then cook the heck out of them and then puree them). I have been on the diet almost a year and I still don't eat raw fruit. In fact, I still eat it all pureed! But, it gets to be more fun as you can tolerate more of a variety- I just made a sauce with apples, peaches and apricots and it tastes like candy it's so good! And by the way, your comment made me laugh so hard:Oh, and isn't is strange how people look at you like you are a leper when you say you have food allergies? I think most people think we make it up.I totally know what you mean. When I start to explain what I can and can't eat when I go out I can see the server's eyes glossing over... Marilyn has created an awesome "allergy" card that I now send to the cooking staff wherever I go. It's been a lifesaver!Well, hang in there. It does get better -JoannaSCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 22.5mg Prednisone
Guest guest
Hi , I was a vegetarian for 10 years and I think thats what made me sick. I have one of the genes for celiac. I haven't had gluten for about 5 years now. I also can't tolerate dairy. I totally understand how you feel. I have had people roll their eyes at me when I say I have food allergies. I do feel very alone a lot of the time. Most people just can't get it about digestive issues unless they've been there. I am lucky that my husband is supportive. He just called to make sure that he wasn't supposed to put garlic powder in a turkey meatloaf that he is making for me when I get home from work. I think that there are men out there like that for you. You just have to look a little harder. Take care, June > > Hi everyone. > > I am new to the group, and I have had UC since 2006ish. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome and please know that there are probably many on this list who have gone through what you are. I too have been super down, cranky, lethargic - I have physical energy, but really hard to get motivated about things sometimes. I know it's all related to what is going on in my body, so I am trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe it's die off? I've only been on the diet a few weeks and even started over again, since I tried to jump into the raw veges too soon. I just hate peeling and cooking to mushiness my veges, but I know it will get better. I have found a wonderful way to eat fruit that needs to be cooked and that is making cobblers! turned me on to that idea and it is great! Try peeling the fruit first - well not the berries, but the peaches, etc. The apple, pear sauces are really good too, but I'm hooked on the cobblers. I have been able to use some raw fruits in smoothies without any problems. And I've done ok with raw carrot juice so far. Each person will have varying degrees of progress. Have you seen the various stages on the pecanbread.com web site? I kind of follow it - it's helpful.I haven't had to eat out yet, since we work from home and don't eat out that much anyway, but I know that day will come and I'll probably not be prepared. Someone mentioned a card that Marilyn made up for chefs? Is that in the files section?Hang in there and feel free to vent with all of us. Everyone here can relate in one way or another.kt> > > Hi ,> >> > no-energy and achiness could be die-off symptoms. It seems like > > people have really different die-off symptoms. I really appreciate your comments.I am dating someone now who wants to cook some dishes out of the book for me once I get well enough, which is sweet.I hope the nightmare is finally over.I can't tell you how much it helps to talk about it with this group--as you know. The doctor gave me no valuable information today, but I am scheduled for a colonoscopy this fall, which is what I went for,and he took some blood to test my hemoglobin. Here's to good health.Hi ,I was a vegetarian for 10 years and I think thats what made me sick. Guest guest
Thank you so much!I am really looking forward to making the cobblers. I love cooked fruit. And peaches are my favorite.:-)Just talking about it has made me feel so much better. I have kept it buried and have been silently suffering and afraid for so long.I am going to keep at it because the fact that I am not running to the bathroom every five minutes and bleeding makes it all worth it.I answered my own question and found the eating out card and other info in the files section. Thanks Marilyn for sharing that!kt> >> > > Hi ,> > >> > > no-energy and achiness could be die-off symptoms. It seems like> > > people have really different die-off symptoms.
