Guest guest
Dear All, I'm afraid I may have given the epidural an undeserved bad rep. Please remember that most of the time the epidural goes quite well with a minimum of pain. I was obviously an exception, but even in the case of pain, there are still alternatives. My surgeon told me the option of being given 'twilight sleep' should have been offered. I can only speculate that because my case was a 'rush job', corners were cut when they should not have been. I have every confidence that my surgeon will root out the problem and it will not reccur in the future. As for myself, if I have future surgery I will do things differently: Make sure someone is there to advocate for me when I'm in a vulnerable position, study the available procedures better, and if I were to again choose the epidural, get the twilight sleep before they come at me with a needle! Please remember that I also posted that once the epidural was working properly, it then became my best friend. I was able to move and walk without pain and without any interference in my balance. Lastly, I was offered the choice of morphine pump or epidural, but I'd heard such good things about the epidural and had personally visited people in the hospital with the morphine pump. They always seemed to be very 'foggy' and sleepy. I chose the epidural because I wanted my mind to be as clear as possible.
