OK, now I'm getting scared! I've been on first

Vicodin then Lortab then vicoprophen for nearly 2

years. I take from 4-6 per day, depending on my pain

level. (I have MPS).

I don't get " high " from them at all but I know when I

don't take them - the pain is incredible.

So does this mean I'm addicted? I've never tried NOT

to take them.

My prognosis isn't great as respects getting better -

one reason I want to have the surgery is because I

really think the MPS will be better if I'm not so

darned heavy.

I'm getting really worried here!

Dee,

It sounds like you are taking your meds exactly as prescribed and

it's doing its job to block the pain. No, I don't think you are

addicted. Understand, that taking medicine for pain management is

critical. If you are trying to fill two prescriptions from two

different doctors, or if the medications are interfering with your

life, then you have a problem. We Americans are so hung up on drug

abuse, we don't prescribe or take medications as needed!

Don't worry, please.

Big hugs,

Theresa

Hi Liz,

I have always been the same way about taking meds.

Not that I was raised anti-pills....more that I

watched my mom and dad be put on more and more

medications, and it never seemed to help them. My mom

used to keep all her pills in a little overnight case

and I swore up and down that I would never, ever take

so many pills that I had to keep them in a case.

Well, guess who now keeps her meds in a little plastic

container???? Live and learn.

My doctor kids me about being such a devil with pain

medication. That's because I'll tell him I've been

taking a ton of pain medication....which turns out to

be one pill per day. He laughs at me! Anytime I use

pain meds for two or three days in a row, I tend to

think I'm overdoing it and if I just tried harder to

ignore the pain it would go away. So far that hasn't

worked. I am getting a bit easier on myself about

taking a pain pill when I need it.

Your letter was great! Hope your pain settles down

soon but in the meantime....keep poppin' those pain

pills.

Love, squeek
