Hi,

has been CF since March and GF since April. We saw wondeful

improvements in language and connectedness. Since he turned 3 and

transisitioned to the CPSE we had a lot more available to us. He is getting 25

hrs a week of ABA and 3 afternoons a week in an integrated preschool class w/

one on one. He gets Ot/ PT as well. He is doing great on the ABA programs but

home has been a nightmare. It is one tantrum after another. He has lost some

spontaneous language that he had and needs specific prompts to recall phrases

he needs. He refuses to come to the table to eat and has missed many meals.

My husband is about to leave because it has been so terrible. On top of all

this my older son has Aspergers and he has never been easy to deal with. When

we say God doesn't give us anything we can't handle, it's these times that I'm

not so sure. He is on Nystatin, SuperNuthera and TMG w/ Folic Acid. I have

started Epsom salts baths but have seen no improvement. did anyone else see

this when starting ABA? Is he so tired from it he just withdraws? We are firm

with our sitter and the school and they insist he isn't getting anything that >

> we haven't provided. We are desperate for help.

Thanks,

from Rochester

Hang in there. We also saw regression when we started our one-on-one.

The way it worked out, we added one therapist at a time before we got

up to being fully staffed. The pattern of regression was the same.

With the first therapist he was tantruming and regressing and being a

basic buthead... then he seemed to calm down and we saw some really

good gains, then we hired another therapist and again with the

tantrums and buthead behavior until a few weeks went by and he

settled down and we got another leap of good things, then the final

therapist was added and more buthead behavior emerged and he seemed

really tired and cranky... then three weeks later, he was up to speed.

I think that the therapies really make our kids work. We are asking

them to be in our world more than they have ever been asked to

before. There is a reason they are distant... our world is harder for

them, it takes more work. I think that your little one just needs

time to adjust to his work. It is rough, but he will get there. The

goal is to help them tollerate (and hopefully desire) being in our

world.

Anyway - that has been our experience, every new therapy, no matter

how fun, takes getting used to.

Hang in there and tell hubby to hang in there too - it will get

better.
