I don't think that people do choose the RNY over the DS. It is my

considered opinion that those who have the RNY are not aware of the DS or

that they have been scared away by misinformation from the RNY Nazis who lie

about malnutrition and liver damage. These claims by RNY fanatics are based

upon their reading of studies involving other surgeries.

I agree with this to a point, but I also see a lot of people going with the

RNY because they see dumping as a positive thing, which simply astounds me.

They seem to feel it is a built in behavior modification and that it is

precisely what they need in order to succeed.

I, personally, think it is nothing short of self mutiliation. I watched my

mother suffer dumping after weight loss surgery 20+ years ago, including

watching her pass out on the floor of a restaurant.

One of the reasons the DS appealed to me so much is the more normal

lifestyle. I want to lose weight and be healthy. I want to be like everyone

else. Why anyone would purposely inflict suffering on themselves is just

beyond my comprehension.

DS v. RNY.

The cost is much higher for the DS. Surgeon's fees are more and so are the

materials. Each staple cartridge costs around $300.00. It only takes two

for the RNY ($600). For the DS it takes a minimum of 9 ($2700). There is a

significant savings for the bottom-line focused insurance mafiosos in the

staples alone.
