Regarding Diet before Surgery

Hi all,

I have been trying to eat like I would after surgery -- mostly getting in

protein, eating what I want after that.

Basically Atkins diet is based on lots of protein and does not " hate " fats

-- which has been shown to actually help the endrocrine system (and he

espouses actually lowers cholesterol and blood sugar, outside of eating

less carbs) -- and since we are going to be malabsorpting fats anyway, it's

the closest thing to a healthy plan IMHO there is beforehand.

But I don't think of myself on this " diet. " I think of it as building my

strength and protein for the surgery, also lessening the craving for carbs

and sugar so the body is a bit more prepared -- but I don't approach it

like NOT eating them I just eat as much protein as I can first, then eat

that stuff if I want it.

One thing I " ve learned through my many years of nutrition exploration --

meat and potatoes together is not really easy on digestion. Starches and

protein are digested in different ways, and things move more slowly when

eaten together like that. Of course, can't be perfect, but I plan to try

and not eat these things together in the beginning to be as easy as

possible on the stomach. Other input?
